10 February Releases to Read in March

At the beginning of this year, I shared on social media our 2023 intent… to share more to be read (TBR) updates, currently reading updates, our book club finally meeting in person, and a monthly list of book recommendations. Well, it’s March and here we are!

The season of Lent began and one of the things I decided to fast from was social media. I felt like I needed to take a break from scrolling and posting too much to focus more on things I wanted to pursue outside of that realm. So far, it’s allowed me to be more present in silence and chase the calmness that I desire. Reading more, spring cleaning, daily prayer and talking to God.

If I’m being honest, ever since I gave birth I’ve felt like I’ve been on autopilot. In full survival mode. Which helped me get through the first few months, definitely the first year. But I needed to wake up and today I feel like I’m finally on track to do so. I owe it to myself and my family to wake up & become present. But we’ll talk about that later.

Today! Today, it’s time for book recommendations. February had lots of new releases and below you will find 9 (plus 1 old release) to think about making your next read.

Remember Divergent? That AMAZING book/movie?

This is who is responsible for that. But remember how it all ended? Terribly in the book and abruptly in the movies since the last one was never made. So I told myself I’d never read Veronica Roth again. But here we are. I may give her another chance. This one is a dystopian retelling of a Greek tragedy. Souls (DNA) are being preserved after death then parents can go select the perfect DNA for their child. Apparently, it’s a fast read so that’s nice.

A 16 year old Black, biracial girl is exploring womanhood, racial identity in America, and homelessness all while navigating life with her fiery Russian mother. Her mother doesn’t recognize her Blackness, wants her to be more Russian and trauma gets thrown in somewhere. Books that navigate the mother/daughter dynamic are always interesting for me as someone with an ‘interesting’ relationship with my mother.

A stirring investigation into collective memory and a deeply felt examination of one woman’s reckoning with her past, with a transfixing mystery at its heart. I love a good mystery thriller!

A novel about a multicultural teen struggling to fit into her whitewashed school, her diverse Queens neighborhood, and even her own home as her family reels from the loss of her father.

Now I'm not always a big fan of nonfiction, but this one caught my attention. Life-changing college friendship? Sounds about right. This novel tracks an extraordinary friendship over decades of challenge and change.

Young Adult never lets me down. I’m a sucker for rom coms. This one is perfect for anyone that likes Jenny Han so makes sense that the description caught my eye.

This is giving me Heartbreakers vibes. You know, the movie with Jennifer Love Hewitt & Sigourney Weaver. The daughter wants to quit scamming and just marry wealthy. Then it gets dark and suspenseful. Thriller vibes.

I’d never leave out a romance book. In this one, a shy bookworm enlists her charming neighbor to help her score a date, not knowing he's the obscure author she's been corresponding with.

Psychological thrillers have my heart. Mix it with YA and some fantasy and you get this book where two teen girls navigating the treacherous past of a mysterious mansion ten years apart.

Okay so yes it released in 2020, but please note this is coming to Netflix this year so if you haven’t read it, now is a great time to do so. It’s a thriller where a working mom meets a stranger on a train as she is commuting home who upends her life.
